Makenna Vacek

APC

Makenna recently earned her Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Georgia State University after spending nearly a decade working in sports medicine with collegiate athletics. She also holds a B.S. in Athletic Training from the University of Pittsburgh, as well as a Master’s degree in Exercise Science from Georgia State University. Her extensive background in sports medicine shapes her holistic approach to therapy, recognizing the deep connection between mind and body in overall wellness.

Makenna enjoys working with athletes and former athletes, high achievers, perfectionists, teens, individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, or disordered eating, and high-conflict couples. Her experience in high-level athletics gives her unique insight into the pressures, transitions, and identity challenges that can come with both competitive sports and life beyond them. She is passionate about helping clients navigate performance pressure, personal growth, relationships, trauma, and major life transitions with greater confidence and self-understanding.

Makenna brings a direct, collaborative, and approachable style to therapy, often incorporating humor to help clients feel comfortable and engaged in the process. She believes creating a space where clients feel honest, supported, and understood is essential to meaningful growth. Her therapeutic approach draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Narrative Therapy, all grounded in a person-centered framework. She values helping clients build practical tools and coping skills while also engaging in deeper therapeutic work that fosters long-term change.

Outside of work, Makenna enjoys getting lost in a good book, exploring local coffee shops, and spending time with her dog, Moxley, and cat, Cy. Makenna is practicing under the supervision of Jennifer Hama. MS, LPC, CPCS, during her APC time. She can also provide some sliding scale spots to work to increase accessibility of therapy services to low-income individuals. If interested and thinking you may qualify, please just reach out.
